Changes to Approved Document L
Building Regulations
A revision to Approved Document L (Part L) of the Building Regulations came into effect on 15 June 2022, introducing important changes for heating system installations.
Complete New Heating Systems
- Heat loss calculations are now required.
- Heating systems must be correctly sized for the property.
- Systems should be designed to operate at a 55°C flow temperature.
Boiler Replacements
- Combination boilers should be selected to match the property's typical heating demand.
BS 7593:2019 has also been incorporated into Part L guidance, meaning that many previous best practice recommendations are now mandatory requirements.
